I completely disagree with the closing of any school. We purchased a home in Auburn a few months ago because my son’s school in New York had been closed due to budget cuts. Although my son attends Fairview School, the closing of any school in the city would be detrimental to all. My son has asked me numerous times, “How do we know they won’t close my next school?”

It has taken a long time for my son to enjoy school again. I hope that people realize that once officials close that school there is no turning back. If administrators or teachers are cut, they can be brought back. If East Auburn Community School is closed, it won’t be brought back.

There is always another way.

City officials will lose the trust and support of 139 children, as well as their family and friends. They will lose the trust and support of a family that came here to escape the kind of thinking that puts money first.

I am greatly disappointed in the school committee for even proposing closure.

The city’s schools belong to all residents, and anyone who disagrees should be disappointed in themselves. Our children are our future everything. Without a quality education, where are they? Where are we?

I will be at the school committee meeting on April 24. I hope to see a community up in arms alongside of me.

We must stand up for the children of Auburn.
