Sugarloaf USA in Carrabassett Valley and Sunday River in Newry will remain open for an additional week, through Sunday, April 29.

Records amounts of April snow prompted the decision, say spokesmen at each ski mountain.

Sugarloaf spokesman Bill Swain says 41 inches of snow fell there this week. The mountain’s 134 ski trails remain open, including the only lift-serviced above treeline skiing on the East Coast, Swain said.

At Sunday River, “We’ve received nearly 5 feet of snow this month, and the conditions are just too good to close,” spokesman Nick Lambert said.

Wildcat Mountain in Pinkham Notch, N.H., announced it will stay open at least through this Sunday. Irene Donnell, spokeswoman for Wildcat, said in a news release that the mountain just east of Mount Washington has seen 6 feet of snow fall this month, 3 feet in the past week alone.
