Bridgton – Robert F. Allen Sr., 78, of Bridgton, died in Bridgton, April 18.
He was born June 21, 1928, in North Bridgton, the son of Alvarado and Lillian Grover Allen. He attended local schools and married Doris E. Day of Fryeburg, April 14, 1946. She died in May 1995.
He was an express truck driver most of his life. He was also caretaker of Camp Samoset in Casco for many years. He was an avid hunter, and had articles about him in various hunting magazines and newspapers. He was a longtime member of the Bridgton Fire Department as a fire policeman, and was made an honorary Maine state trooper in the 1970s.
He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Chaplin, who resided with him in North Bridgton; sons, Robert F. Allen Jr. and partner, Earl Fournier, of Auburn, and Wayne K. Allen of North Bridgton; grandchildren, Richard Chaplin of Gray, Lisa Hill of Fryeburg, John Allen of Lewiston and Robert M. Allen of Auburn; stepgrandchildren, Christine Souter Suau, David Souter and Ryan Souter; great-grandchildren, Kristin Smith, Ryan Smith, Ashley Chaplin of Fryeburg, Adam and Aaron Chaplin of Harrison, Riley and Bryce Chaplin of West Paris, Nathaniel and Olivia Allen of Auburn, Grace and Ian Allen of Lewiston; stepgreat-grandchildren, Colin Allen Suau and Owen M. Suau of Framingham, Mass.; three brothers, Milton and Dianna Allen of Bridgton, Howard and Pauline Allen of Bridgton, and Stanley and Arlene Allen of Naples; two sisters, Dorothy Greeley of Casco, and Judi Willette of Florida; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Donald Allen of Gorham, and Mrs. Charles Allen of Bridgton.
He was predeceased by brothers, Edward, Charles and Donald Allen; and daughter-in-law Mary Souter Allen.
