FARMINGTON – Preliminary estimates for storm damage in Franklin County exceed $125,000, county Emergency Management Agency Assistant Director Olive Toothaker said Thursday.

Representatives from Federal Emergency Management Agency and county EMA Director Tim Hardy will be looking at some of the hardest hit towns on Friday, she said.

These are preliminary estimates and could change either up or down, Toothaker said, depending on what FEMA determines.

Gov. John Baldacci has requested a disaster declaration from the federal government for the Patriots’ Day storm.

“We are well over $125,000 in reported damages,” Toothaker said.

The county needed to have $91,000 in damages to be eligible to receive disaster relief, she said.

Some of the hardest hit towns are: Chesterville and New Vineyard, both reported $40,000 in damage; Wilton, $35,000; Industry, $20,000, and Franklin County unorganized territories, $25,000.

Other towns reported between $1,000 and $6,000 in damages, Toothaker said. Most of the county’s towns have some damage, she said. It was mostly road washouts and culvert damage, she said.
