After reading Dan Bolling’s letter, (April 16) I felt the need to add a comment.

I graduated from college last year and made the decision to come back to Maine to start the next phase of my life. Now, a year later, I may have to move because of the lack of opportunity.

The economic climate in this state is miserable. Businesses are not allowed to grow because of the tax system. Companies are forced to make cuts, or delay expansion. The job market now has positions for experienced workers only, not for workers looking for a business to give them a chance.

Even with employment, the income tax, property tax, sales tax and excise tax on vehicles are just some of the obstacles that make it difficult for someone to survive.

Now, members of the Legislature want to pat themselves on the back with a pay raise by pushing through LD 1814. How can the representatives in Augusta propose a pay raise when so many people in Maine are suffering under the tax burden that exists?

The representatives in Augusta are arrogant and do not fear being replaced.

Maybe voters should look west, toward New Hampshire, where taxes are low, the quality of life is good and the representatives receive $200 per biennium plus mileage. Our representatives should make due with what they have.
