Benefit supper

OXFORD – A benefit supper will be held Saturday, April 28, at the Grace Fellowship Church for Kevin Waterhouse, who is recovering from major surgery. There will be two seatings, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The menu will include pork roast, potatoes, mixed vegetables, homemade pies, coffee and cold drinks. Entertainment will follow the meal. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. For more information, call 674-2733 or 539-9064.

Basket bingo

NORWAY – A Longaberger basket bingo will be held Sunday, April 29, at the Norway Legion Hall, Main Street. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and bingo will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Cost for tickets is $10 and there will also be special games, raffle baskets, door prizes and refreshments. Proceeds will go to the Responsible Pet Care Shelter. For advance tickets or for more information, call 743-8679.

Teachers needed

PARIS – Oxford Hills Adult Education is preparing the schedule of community education courses for fall 2007 and hopes to add some new subjects. Anyone interested in teaching adults is asked to contact Jane Courcy at Oxford Hills Adult Education by Thursday, May 31. Call Jane Courcy, director of OHAE, at 743-8842, press 1. A written application and interview screening process is required.

Auction set

OXFORD – The Resistance Ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will have a Chinese auction fundraiser on Saturday, May 5, at the Hosanna Church Building, Schoolhouse Road. New items will be up for auction. The doors will open for ticket sales at 11 a.m. and the tickets will start to be drawn at 12:30 p.m. There will be a dollar table, grab bags and a 50/50 raffle. Tractor course

PARIS – A University of Maine Cooperative Extension tractor safety course will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 8 and 15, at the Extension Office, South Paris, and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 10 and 17, at Roundabout Farm, Buckfield.

The course includes a manual, and driving skills and knowledge will be tested. Participants should be at least age 13 to receive credit. Adults are welcome to participate. More information is available from the Extension Office by calling 1-800-287-1482. Registration is required and space is limited to 15 participants.

Supper/dance

LOCKE MILLS – A musical supper/dance will be held at the Legion Hall on Tuesday May 8. Supper will start at 6 p.m. followed by dancing to the Parisians until 9:30 p.m. Supper will include casseroles, salads, homemade biscuits and pies. Cost is $8. Society meeting

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Kay House, Pleasant Street. The program will be about “Spring.” Each member is asked to bring something to show, read or tell that they remember about spring. The public is welcome as are new members. The meeting will be followed by refreshments.

Grange award

WATERFORD – The Waterford Grange 479 will hold a Community Service Award Night on Monday, April 30, at the grange hall, Valley Road.

A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the Community Service Award honoring Merle McAllister of North Waterford will be given at 7:30. The public is invited. For more information, contact Barbara Sanborn at 583-4015.

Bridge play

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met April 20 in the Fare Share Commons, Main Street, when a 3 and 1/2 table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Marta Clements and Luke Merry; second, Eleanor Griffin and Les Buzzell; first in Flight B and C, Barbara Vanderzanden and Wally Fricke; second in both, Arlen Riis and Cindy Kirchherr.

There will be another game Friday, April 27, and all bridge players are welcome. A partner is guaranteed. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153.
