BATH – Senior pitcher Brittany Gurney struck out 13 hitters to lead Leavitt to an 8-1 victory over Morse in KVAC softball season-opener Monday.

Caroline Bochtler had a double and a triple for the Hornets in the 12-hit outing. Gurney recorded the first 12 outs of the game with strikeouts and gave up only a pair of walks.

Relief pitcher Dana Wallace came on in the fifth inning for the Shipbuilders (0-1) and had one of Morse’s three hits and an RBI in the final frame.

Oak Hill 4, Mt. View 0

WALES – Angie Russell pitched a three-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 as Oak Hill registered a 4-0 triumph over Mt. View in a softball match-up played Monday.

The Raiders scored three runs in the first innig to take control.

Clarissa St. Clair had two hits for Mt. View.

Fryeburg 6, Gray-NG 0

FRYEBURG – Pitcher Hannah Hill fanned 16 batters and led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored to carry Fryeburg to a 6-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester.

Cerise Humphrey added two hits and four RBIs for Fryeburg. Heather Tripp added an RBI double.

Oliva Ryan took the loss for Gray-New Gloucestor (0-3).

Mtn. Valley 20, Livermore Falls 16

LIVERMORE FALLS – Shawnee Akers hit two RBI doubles to pace Mountain Valley to a 20-16 slugfest win over Livermore Falls on Monday in what proved to be a very evenly matched MVC contest.

Abbey Mills and Shelby Moore combined on the mound for the Falcons (1-0) to preserve the win, while Stephanie Galant had three hits.

Jayde Purington hit a lead-off triple and finished the day with three hits for the Andies .

Cape Elizabeth 3, Poland 1

CAPE ELIZABETH – Jackie Moran had a solid performance on the mound with 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 3-1 triumph over Poland.

The Capers (1-0) were led by Maureen Kertes, who smacked an RBI triple with two outs in the third to give Cape Elizabeth the early advantage. Colleen Martin added a triple.

Alicia Dube singled, stole second, and scored on a two-base throwing error to score the lone Poland run.

Mt. Blue 9, Mt. Ararat 4

TOPSHAM – Senior pitcher Megan Richard was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4, to lead Mt. Blue to a 9-4 victory over Mt. Ararat.

Richard also notched the mound win with four strikeouts for the Cougars (1-0).

Senior Ashley Goucher had a strong offensive outing with a triple and home run, including four RBIs in the winning effort.

Michelle Prevost took the pitching loss for the Eagles (0-2), recording five strikeouts, while cracking a triple and scoring one run.
