LEWISTON – The Jesus Party urban youth outreach schedule of events for May has been announced. The theme will be “May is a Good Time to Pray!”
The Rev. Clayton Alward of the North Monmouth Pentecostal Church donated a prayer curriculum designed to get children excited about prayer. The curriculum consists of high-gloss prayer cards that are easy to read and understand.
All events will take place at Jesus Party Headquarters at 291 Bates St. Children must be at least age 5 and rides are available on the Holy Roller Express.
Children will celebrate the National Day of Prayer by making a “Lord’s Prayer” bookmark craft at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3.
On Friday, May 4, at 6 p.m. the focus will be praying for government leaders. Door prizes will be photographs of Gov. John Baldacci and Maine souvenir pins that were provided by Sen. Peggy Rotundo.
A prayer breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5. Ministry directors Doug and Sonia Taylor will encourage students to be respectful, kind and obedient to school teachers, principals and coaches. Prayer will be offered to keep the schools safe.
All of the street names of those in attendance will be called out as children pray for their neighborhoods at 6 p.m. Friday, May 11.
Children will be encouraged to lift up their pastors and spiritual leaders and pray to God to keep them pure, spirit-filled and full of life-giving truths at 6 p.m. Friday, May 18.
Saturday, May 19, 9 a.m.-
A prayer breakfast will recognize Armed Forces Day at 9 .m. Saturday, May 19. The event will focus on praying for all branches of the military. Patriotic mentor Jerry DerBoghosian will lead children in the “Pledge of Allegiance,” and the Taylor singers will sing patriotic songs.
A program, “Me, Myself and God,” at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25, will help to encourage children to focus on their own relationship with God. Prayer will be offered for their minds, eyes, ears, mouth, hands, feet and heart.
