PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A lawyer from Maine has been charged with illegally registering cars through his New Hampshire law office address.

Richard Foley, 53, of Kittery, was charged with three counts of title fraud and one count of tampering with public records for allegedly falsely registering his cars in New Hampshire. Police say Foley used the address of his downtown Portsmouth law office to register three cars.

Vehicles registered in New Hampshire are not subject to an excise tax, as they are in Maine.

He is due in court date May 23.

According to state Supreme Court rules, lawyers convicted of “serious crimes” may have their legal licenses suspended.
