Taylor Hicks – the silver-haired crooner who won American Idol 5, thanks to his legion of fans better known as “Soul Patrol” – will perform this summer at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium. The 30-year-old throwback to the spontaneous entertainer of bygone years with his playful dancing and soulful voice will take to the stage Sunday, Aug. 12. The Alabama native’s “Soul Patrol” helped turn his first single, “Do I Make You Proud?” into certified gold. On tour to promote his self-titled debut album, Hicks described his show as a blend of new material, covers and songs he wrote and recorded before “American Idol.” Touring is a “rekindling of the artist and the creative process, and it’s my job to go out and perform the music that I wrote,” he stated in a recent article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
