AUBURN – Bernice Laura (Trebilcock) Herrick, 85, a resident of Odd Fellows Home, Auburn, passed away Monday, April 23, following a long battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
The daughter of Lewis and Bertha Wilson Trebilcock, she was born May 2, 1921. She lived her childhood years in Oxford, and graduated from Oxford High School class of 1938. She married George F. Herrick Sr., April 8, 1938. She played the trumpet in high school and was a talented musician, playing in local dance bands and the Oxford American Legion Post, Drum and Bugle Corps. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she worked for more than 23 years in the textile industry as a “coner,” at both the Cowan Mill in Lewiston, and Robinson Manufacturing Mill in Oxford.
During her lifetime she resided in Oxford, Summerville, South Carolina and Auburn. She was a member of the American Legion Post 166 auxiliary, La Femms Voiture Locale 1067, Goose Creek, S.C. She was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star 170, Pine Cone Chapter 26, Auburn, and the Old Fort Baptist Church, Summerville, S.C. She enjoyed visiting her family and friends, traveling, fishing and playing bingo.
She is survived by her husband, George F. Herrick Sr.; and her four children, Bernice Brooks of Auburn, George F. Herrick Jr. and wife, Terri Greene, Sheila Desgrosseilliers and husband, Edward, of Auburn, Sherida Johnson and husband, David, of Minot; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Arthur Herrick and wife, Dorothy, of Oxford, Lloyd Herrick of Norway, William Herrick and wife, Holly, of Oxford; and sister-in-law, Edith Trebilcock of Solon.
She was predeceased by her mother and father; brothers, Clifford and Edward; and sister-in law, Isabel Trebilcock.
Thank-you to the many friends and relatives who supported her through her illness. A very special thanks from the family to the administration and staff of the Odd Fellows Nursing Home for the exceptional care and special love extended to her and her family while she was a resident for the past 3 years. We are especially indebted to her roommate, Rosie Thompson, for the love, affection and sincere friendship she extended to “Bee” and her family.
