Oxford – Peter Wayne Morrison, 56, of 321 King Street in Oxford, died peacefully Tuesday morning, April 24, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was cared for during his final weeks by his loving family and hospice.
He was born in Plainfield, N.J., Feb. 14, 1951, the son of Anita K. Morrison and Robert G. Morrison. He was educated in Plainfield, and received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in Political Science and Economics.
On July 8, 1972, he married the former Ellen M. Hanley. They moved to New Paltz, N.Y. where their three children were born, and where Pete worked for Fairchild/Semiconductor.
In 1985, he was transferred to the Portland branch, so the family moved to Oxford, and have made their home there ever since. For the past seven years, he has worked for Proctor and Gamble in Auburn, until his illness forced him to leave.
He has been a loving husband, father, and mentor. He served his church as parish council president, C.C.D. teacher, Eucharistic minister and lector. He served his community as a counselor for Boy Scouts, a youth basketball coach, Oxford Elementary P.T.A. president, and as a member of Oxford recreation committee and Oxford budget committee. He will always be remembered for his ready smile, sense of humor and helping hand.
He leaves behind his adoring wife of almost 35 years, Ellen; his son, Peter W. Morrison II and his wife, Alyssa Tikkanen Morrison, their son, Peter W. Morrison III; daughters Erin Kate H. Morrison and Sarah A. Morrison, all of Oxford: sisters, Ann Dudley and her husband, John, of Virginia, Babara Squeri and her husband, John, of New Jersey; stepmother, Ida K. Morrison of North Carolina; an aunt, Jean Bennett of Florida; GiGi-Elinor Krauss of New Jersey; many nieces; nephews; in-laws; and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; and grandparents.
