I think it is disgusting the way in which the media attempts to capitalize on tragedies such as the Virginia Tech shootings. Only hours after the incident, every news station hosted a special report during which newscasters talked about the shooting even though they had little information and nothing to say that people hadn’t already heard.

A week later, the media is saturated with the Virginia Tech shooting; analyzing the shooter’s strategy and motive, assailing students and families of the deceased with questions, and turning a devastating incident into a tabloid story.

In coverage of the shooting, news outlets have shown little compassion or respect for the victims, dead and alive.

I do not believe in censorship of the media, but I do believe that the media need to understand the fine line between reporting the facts of such a tragic event and exploiting the people connected with it.
