Rick Greene, left, of Greene’s Auto in Livermore Falls, slowly pulls a 1998 Chevy Blazer out of a water-filled drainage ditch on Thursday afternoon beside Route 140 in Canton while employee Joe McKenna applies his weight to the front wheel to prevent the SUV from rolling over back into the ditch. Driver Beatrice Barnett, 71, of Fayette, was headed west when her coffee spilled and she reached for the cup at 10:58 a.m., according to Oxford County Dep. Justin Brown and Med-Care Ambulance paramedic Berta Broomhall. The SUV left the road and flopped onto its side in the ditch. Barnett, who complained of back pain, climbed out by herself and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by Med-Care, Broomhall said. She was treated and released, hospital spokeswoman Jill Gray said. Brown estimated interior water damage at $4,000. Canton firefighters assisted.
