LEWISTON – Constance J. Brackett, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, April 26, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1932, in Lewiston, she was the daughter of Rosario A. Dube and Everlyn Minnehan. She attended Jordan and Lewiston high schools.
As a young woman, she worked for a short time at Knapp Shoe and Ratheon. She continued her career working as a nurse’s aide until her retirement.
During the 74 years she graced our Earth, Connie touched the lives of many.
With tremendous grace and amazing strength, she bore and raised seven children, often times on her own. At the age of 38, when her youngest child was 8, she extended her great love and adopted a son.
As she aged, she took great pleasure watching her family grow and bloom.
Connie enjoyed passing time with her family, who in turn enjoyed the pleasure of her wisdom and compassion. She loved to sew and garden, appreciating the smaller things in life. Thinking of those in need, she would often knit mittens, hats and slippers to donate to local charities.
She was an amazing woman who never took the things she loved for granted. We all aspire to be more like her.
She was the best mother, wife, sister, “Nana,” Grammy and woman she could be, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more.
She is survived by her devoted husband who loved her dearly, Richard E. Brackett, and their dog, Jack, of Auburn; daughters, Michele Swift of Poland, Maureen Adams and her husband, Bruce, of Otisfield, Kathleen Peters and her husband, William, of Sumner, Sheila Rousseau and her husband, Roch, of Auburn, Mary Kay Pace and her husband, Vincent, of Reading, Mass.; sons, Michael Cosgrove of Auburndale, Fla., and Jay Dostie and his wife, Jessica, of Auburn; a stepson, Richard Brackett and his wife, Linda, of Auburn; 25 grandchildren; and eight and “two halves” (due soon) great-grandchildren; sisters, Jacqueline Bernard of Georgia, Georgette Fouquette of Litchfield, and Bona Kimmerling of Auburn.
She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Shirley Dowling; a brother, Rosario Dube; a daughter, Linda Dittler; and a grandson, Deryk Peters.
