BERLIN, N.H. – Laurent A. Nault, 90, passed away in the early hours of Friday, April 27, at St. Vincent De Paul Nursing Home, surrounded by his family. He had previously resided on First Street, Gorham, N.H., in the same house where he was born.

Laurent was born in Gorham on Sept. 21, 1916, a son of the late Paul and Zenaide (Doyon) Nault. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Gorham High, Class of 1935.

He was a public bus driver before joining the armed forces. Laurent served in the U.S. Army Air Force, a veteran of World War II with tours stateside and in India. The military opened many doors for him and endowed in him a love of traveling. His travels took him all over the world with concentrations in Europe, Germany and several exotic islands.

After his years in the military, Laurent was involved with the Gorham Fire Department as the fire ward for Gorham. He also maintained a camp at Littlefield Beach, Maine, for more than 30 years.

Laurent was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the Brown Co. for several years, before retiring in 1979.

In his retirement, he kept busy by volunteering with the Association for the Blind/Northern Lights Program, playing cards with friends at the Eagles Post No. 1464 and VFW Post No, 2520, and golfing.

At 88, Laurent took on the Internet to play cribbage with friends all over the world.

He was extremely devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them at the camp and while traveling.

Laurent is survived by his sons, Paul Nault and his wife, Jacqueline, of Gorham, Jerry Nault and his partner, Karen Sullivan, of Berlin, and Cleo Castonguay and his wife, Doris, of Exeter; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Florence Nault; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both his wives, Marcelle (Jutras) Nault in 1962, and Dora (Larivee) Nault in 2004; as well as by all his siblings.
