LEWISTON – Robert “Bob” W. Boucher, 55, of Lewiston died Thursday evening, April 26, at St. Mary’s Hospital with his family by his side.

Bob was born in Lewiston on Nov. 15, 1951, the son of Roger and Bernadette (Rioux) Boucher. He was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1970.

While attending Lewiston High School, he played four years of varsity hockey. He was team captain two years, including the 1968 state championship campaign: twice the state’s leading scorer; twice an All-State selection; and twice named as the state MVP by Sun Journal.

He then attended Merrimack College, where he continued his hockey career, earning himself varsity letters for three seasons. He later graduated from the University of Southern Maine in Portland, where he also played hockey and earned his teaching degree.

After college, Bob played for the L-A Twins and, briefly, for the professional Maine Nordiques in the North American Hockey League. Bob was not only a superior athlete, he possessed that unique talent to teach and coach young athletes to championship levels.

On Nov. 3, 1973, he married the former Linda Vachon at Holy Family Church and together they made their home in Lewiston. He went on to teach at St. Dominic High School in 1978 as a teacher of history, government and economics.

In 1980, Bob was named the St. Dom’s varsity hockey coach and thus began his spectacular 25-year career at the school. During his years as coach, his team captured five state championships and Bob was voted Coach of the Year three times.

Bob’s skills weren’t just limited to the sport of hockey. He also coached varsity soccer at St. Dom’s for 16 years, winning three state championships. Also, he coached varsity tennis and golf for several years.

In 1984, Bob accepted the added responsibility of athletic director for 14 sports teams, a position that now covers 33 teams. He retired from coaching in 2005, but was currently on the teaching faculty and still athletic director.

Bob did enjoy sports and enjoyed playing golf and was avid Bocce player. Other interests include carpentry, building three homes, watching the New England Patriots and boating. Bob’s greatest pleasure in life, however, was the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Lewiston; his daughter, Kim Boucher and her fiancé, Dan Caron, of Minot; his son, Brian Boucher, of Lewiston; three sisters, Irene Rauscher and her husband, Dr. Greg Rausher, of Park View, N.J., Rachel Pomerleau and her husband, John, of Dover, N.H., and Denise Fournier and her husband, Paul Fournier, of Lewiston; four brothers, Gerry Boucher of Lewiston, Michel Boucher of Lewiston, Danny and his wife, Terri, of Lewiston, and Davey and his wife, Michelle, of Lewiston; his mother-in-law, Fernande Vachon, of Lewiston; and 11 nephews and five nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Joan Boucher.
