YMCA camping

WINTHROP – The YMCA Camp of Maine, East Winthrop, will celebrate 92 years of camping this year. Since 1915, the summer resident camp has been serving boys and girls ages 8 to 15.

The Y Camp provides campers with opportunities to grow and build self-confidence through traditional programs and cabin life. Campers select from major program offerings such as aquatics, sports, arts and crafts and outdoor camping. Campers can enroll for one or up to eight weeks. The Y Camp also offers several older teen programs in leadership and out-of-camp trips.

The YMCA Camp will host two open houses to give prospective families the opportunity to see camp first hand and speak with director and other staff. The open houses will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, May 6 and June 3.

Students will explore health careers independently or with teachers and guidance counselors. The site can also be accessed directly by anyone with a computer from students to job seekers at career centers to elders at the public library.

The launch celebration on May 8 will be attended by many of Maine’s leaders. Opportunities to surf the new Web portal will be available on site at the United Technology Centers computer lab, 200 Hogan Road.

The Maine AHEC Network consists of a statewide program office located at the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, as well as centers in Bangor, Farmington and Augusta.
