LEWISTON – L/A Arts is offering up another serving of Art and Java at Barnies Coffee and Tea Co. in the Mill #6 building at 70 Lincoln St. Featured is fused glass artwork by Kay McKeever Allison. The multicolored layers of glass depicting Maine scenes are professionally matted and framed.

Now in her 26th year of teaching art in the Lewiston school system, Allison is committed to the arts and believes that both students and teachers should invest in their school and community. She realizes this goal by displaying student art in both the school and the community.

Allison learned the art of fusing glass – cutting, layering and melting glass to create a finished work – while taking classes at the Maine Art Glass Studio in Lisbon. Creating the Maine landscape through fused glass is her latest passion. “I am delighted that my artwork has afforded me the opportunity to experience solo exhibitions as well as bigger juried exhibits,” she said.

Allison enjoys the firing process, which involves loading and firing the glass in a kiln multiple times – and seeing how a piece changes its appearance each time she removes it from the kiln.

This local artist finds inspiration for artwork from her own photography, her memory and her imagination.

The exhibit will be up through May 31. All artwork in this exhibit is available for purchase. To view the exhibit online, log on to www.laarts.org.
