BETHEL – Wendy Iseman, MSW, will present a workshop on “How to Cope with Asthma and Allergies” from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Gehring House, 77 Broad St.
As a former communications director of the American Lung Association of Brooklyn for 21 years, Iseman is well versed in the problems of asthma. She was a master trainer for a nationally recognized asthma program for school children. She also served as a director of the Brooklyn Breathing Partners, a patient education program for adults with chronic obstructive lung disease.
Iseman currently serves as director of development and public relations for Maine Handicapped Skiing.
She said spring often means more allergies and often more asthma. She will give a general overview of asthma and allergies and discuss how to prevent and manage both conditions.
The information will help participants identify their asthma (or a child’s asthma) triggers and how to avoid them. Basic management principles for taking control of one’s asthma will be reviewed.
Iseman will also instruct participants in deep breathing exercises, which is important in helping one’s lungs absorb more oxygen.
The program is co-sponsored by Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44/Community Education as one of the “To Your Health” spring workshops. The public is invited and admission is free. For more information, call Iseman at 824-8610.
