DIXFIELD – Selectmen and the Hiring Committee plan to conduct a second interview Tuesday with their final choice for town manager.
Board Chairwoman Bettina Martin said four of the 15 applicants have been interviewed during the past two weeks. All are men from Maine, and the finalist has the most experience of all of them.
If the second interview goes well, she said an offer may be made and a starting date set.
“The four were all excellent candidates,” said Martin.
She said selectmen will likely decide how to announce the selection by Tuesday. The board’s next regular meeting isn’t until May 14.
Neighboring Mexico Town Manager John Madigan has been serving Dixfield and Mexico the past three months after Dixfield Manager Jeff Jacobson resigned.
Once Dixfield has a manager again, Madigan will return to full time in Mexico.
In nearby Rumford, a finalist for manager has been chosen, but his name has not been announced or a compensatory package confirmed.
Rumford selectmen have scheduled a closed session at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3, to discuss the status of the manager search. Six semifinalists from the 24 applications were interviewed.
Police Chief Stacy Carter has been acting town manager, and Lt. Mark Cayer action police chief. Both will return to their positions once a new manager begins work.
