FARMINGTON – Dennis R. Parsons, 59, of Kingfield, died Thursday, April 26, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born, March 8, 1948, in Farmington, a son of Fred L. and Mildred (Reid) Parsons, Jr. He graduated from Kingfield schools.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1974 to 1977 receiving the National Defense Award, service medals and commendations of merit.
He worked during the winter months at Sugarloaf, running a chairlift and summers for Keenan Auction Co., both of which he did with extreme dedication. Later he worked at Sugarloaf throughout the year, where during warmer weather he spent working on the golf course.
His smile and personality earned him acclaim with rookie and seasoned “Loafers” world wide. He received the state recreation award in 1966 as well as the outstanding recreation employee award of the year in 1994. He was honored with the dedication of a chairlift station in his name, Parsons Overlook at the Sawduster trailhead at Sugarloaf.
He enjoyed camping at his Rapid Stream property in West Kingfield and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Amanda Bachelder, and her fiancé, Anthony Pinkham, of Avon, Timothy Bachelder, and his fiancée, Amy Ross, of Oquossoc and Betsy Bachelder, and her fiancé, Chad Emery, of North New Portland; siblings, Luanne Ouellette, and her husband, James, of Leominster, Mass., Betty Lou Parsons of Kingfield, Ross Parsons of Kingfield and Vincent Parsons, and his wife, Sharon, of Kingfield; sister-in-law, Laurally Parsons of Avon; grandchildren, Christy Emery, Alexis Bachelder, Daisy Emery and Allie Bachelder; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; an infant brother, Dennis; brother, Wayne; and sister, Gail Parsons.
