AUBURN – Eunice A. Campbell, 79, of Canton, died Tuesday, May 1, at the Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.

Our family wishes to send love out to Eunice who was born Sept. 20, 1927, on Sky Farm in Strong/New Vineyard the daughter of Lura (White) and Ralph Atwood.

She attended a one-room school house in New Vineyard. She was very proud of her four years spent attending Strong High School. To accomplish this she earned room and board by babysitting for the Probert and Hutchins families. She often mentioned her long walks to school in the winter, by telling how they used to follow the telephone lines due to so much snow.

In 1945, she met Ralph E Campbell Jr. at the Farmington Fair. They married on March 17, 1948 in Farmington, and moved to Canton, where they raised six children together. She was a very devoted mother. Her and Ralph enjoyed being the school bus drivers for Canton for several years.

She enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard with great friends in Sarasota, Fla., where she and Ralph spent 14 winters. She especially enjoyed the neighborhood watch walks they took together at night.

Many memories surround every member of her family. Every Christmas for more than 50 years she gave her gift to Ralph in the same box wrapped in black velvet with colored flecks. Her crafts for the grandchildren every holiday will be cherished for a lifetime, along with her fur wreaths. She was an avid cook. She made pies at the Pinewood Camp for years and made rolls for the Fish & Game. Her specialties were chicken pies, wedding cakes, donuts and popcorn balls.

She was a member of the Mothers Club, the Canton Historical Society and the Livermore Historical Society. She helped to raise money for the kitchen at the new community building in Canton. She attended the Republican conventions and loved talking politics with Erma Bowles.

Her paintings, quilts, braided wool rugs and beautiful penmanship were exceptional. She enjoyed gardening/canning and had a special place in her heart for her dog, Ginger and cat, Sis. And if there was anyone who could save a pair of jeans with a patch, it would be her.

She was good friends with Adelaide Ray, her cousin Edna Bryant, and sister-in-law Marguerite Packard. She has special nieces in Connecticut, Michigan and Ohio. She also adored playing Philadelphia Rummy with her Aunt Grace from California.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph of Canton; three daughters, Brenda Adams of Canton, Kathy Campbell of Norway and Rosellen Taylor of Portland; two sons, Errol Campbell of Hartland and Roger Campbell, and companion, Joy Beaupre, of Livermore; six grandchildren, Prudy Adams, Russell Adams, and wife, Kelly and Randy Campbell, and companion, Lorraine Risner, all of Canton, Emily Taylor of Portland, Steven Campbell, and wife, Joyce, of Auburn and Callie Beaupre of Livermore; six great-grandchildren, Travis Risner, Rebecca Risner, Mason King, Carolyn Campbell, Hayden Charles Adams, all of Canton and Logan Roger Campbell of Auburn.

She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Arlen 1954; two brothers, George in 1972 and Richard in 1987; and a son-in-law, Charles Adams in 2004.

The words “thank-you” cannot begin to express our appreciation. Over the last two years the Rumford Community Home staff has been a god send to our family, taking care of Eunice and welcoming Ralph almost daily. We know Eunice herself, would be blissfully thankful. With our love and appreciation, the family of Ralph and Eunice.
