AUBURN – John D. Gagne Sr., 86, of Horton Street, Lewiston, died Tuesday, May 1, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin.

He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 25, 1921, the son of Jean Dominique and Emma (Belinski) Gagne.

He attended local schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 103rd Infantry Division in various capacities, including the Army Band and medic.

On Nov. 10, 1945, he married the former Simone Gaudette.

He was a parishioner of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, League of St. John The Baptiste, the Band St. Cecile, the Montagnard Club, the D.A.V., the former Legion Post 22 and an active pallbearer for the legion for many years.

He is survived by his wife of Lewiston; three sons, John Jr. of Lewiston, Roger, and his wife, Andrea, of Falmouth and Robert of Lewiston; one daughter, Pauline Ellis of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, Scott, Kristina, Michael, Melissa, Kevin, Danielle and Nicholas; and three great-grandchildren, Katrina, Kylie and Ethan.
