FARMINGTON – Ruth Ann (Hall) True, 83, of Wilton, formerly of Orono, died early Monday, April 30, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Orono, Aug. 29, 1923, a daughter of Howe Wiggin Hall and May (Betz) Hall. She attendend school in Orono and graduated from Orono High School in 1940. She then continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono, graduating with a B.A. in zoology in three years.

Her accelerated graduation was fueled by her desire to join the U.S Navy in support of her brother John, who was in the Army, and to support her country during World War II. From July 1944 to April 1946, she served in the U.S. Navy. She attended Hunter College in the Bronx, where she received training in the rehabilitation of the blind. After her training, she taught typing and Braille at the United States Naval Hospital in Philadelphia.

On June 8, 1946, she married E. Milton True. They enjoyed the outdoors together and shared this enthusiasm with their two sons on numerous camping and fishing trips. She worked at the University of Maine at Orono for several years. She returned to receive her masters degree in food science and continued working there until her retirement in 1989.

She enjoyed volunteering at the Church of Universal Fellowship annual fair and counting money for the Salvation Army at Christmas time. She enjoyed her camp at Williams Pond in Bucksport and also loved traveling and watching college sports. But, most of all she enjoyed her time with her extended family at the Spruce Head cottage.

She is survived by her sons, Robert A. True, and his wife, Tricia, of Belgrade and John N. True, and his wife, Penny, of Windsor; grandson, Nathan P. True of Mount Desert; step-grandson, Eric T. Field of Stratton; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Paul Mosher of Wilton.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Alex S. True; a brother, John Hall; and a sister, Lucile Gledhill.
