CLEVELAND – Rocked for three homers in the first inning, C.C. Sabathia buckled down to stay unbeaten and Jhonny Peralta had a career-high five RBIs as the Cleveland Indians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 12-4 on Tuesday night.

Sabathia (4-0) found himself down 3-0 five batters into the game. But the left-hander settled in and held the Blue Jays to one hit over the next five innings, retiring 16 of the final 17. He walked none and struck out nine in six innings.

Peralta hit a two-run double in the third and three-run homer in the fifth off A.J. Burnett (2-2), who dropped to 0-3 in three career starts at Jacobs Field.

Travis Hafner added a two-run homer and Trot Nixon a three-run shot for the Indians.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Phil Hughes was working on a no-hitter in the seventh inning of his second major league start when an injury cost him a chance to make history.

That was the only bit of bad news for the New York Yankees in a 10-1 rout of the Texas Rangers.

DETROIT – Pinch-hitter Sean Casey hit a tiebreaking single with one out in the eighth inning to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Vladimir Guerrero hit a first-inning grand slam and the surging Los Angeles Angels held on to beat the reeling Kansas City Royals 7-5.

NEW YORK – Josh Willingham drove in a career-high five runs and the Florida Marlins made three great defensive plays to stifle the New York Mets in a 5-2 victory.

MILWAUKEE -Tony Graffanino hit a three-run homer to cap a seven-run sixth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat St. Louis Cardinals 12-2 .

ATLANTA – Cole Hamels pitched into the eighth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies finally beat Atlanta, knocking off the sloppy Braves 6-4.

Reds 11, Astros 2

HOUSTON – Bronson Arroyo got his first win of the season and Adam Dunn hit a three-run homer to help the Cincinnati Reds beat Houston 11-2.
