JAY – A Jay High School student was suspended from school after another student overheard a threatening remark about harming other students.
A student reported the threat to Jay school officials Monday. They followed it up and after investigating determined the threat was made before April vacation, Superintendent Robert Wall said Tuesday.
Police were called to the school and interviewed students and others, Wall said.
Letters to parents from Wall were sent home with high school students on Tuesday informing them of the situation and what had been done.
A police officer was at the school Tuesday as part of the School Department’s commitment to continue working with them to make the school a safe environment for students, Wall said.
“The investigation has identified the person that made the threat and that person has been suspended from school attendance while an evaluation of future actions with respect to this incident is conducted,” Wall said. “We are continuing to investigate the conditions that led to the verbal threat. While there has been no indication that the threat was to be carried out, we take issues of this kind very seriously and will continue to take steps to keep our schools safe places for our students,” Wall said.
