JAY – A 9-year-old boy riding a bicycle was injured late Monday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck on Jewell Street.
The unidentified boy left a driveway and drove into the path of an oncoming truck operated by Barbara Mercier, 59, of Jay, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Mercier was traveling south on the road toward Main Street and the child left the driveway heading westerly toward Livermore Falls, White said.
The bike struck the front bumper of the truck, he said.
The boy tumbled to the ground and received scrapes, bumps and abrasions, White said.
He was taken by a NorthStar Emergency Services ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington where he was treated and released later that evening, the chief said.
Speed was not a factor in the incident, and there are no charges pending against Mercier, White said.
Jay officer Stephen Wilkinson handled the investigation with assistance from White and officers Mike Mejia and Anthony Duvall.
