Safety day

FARMINGTON – Farmington emergency personnel and U.S. Cellular will host a safety day of events designed to teach families about cell phone safety and emergency procedures from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at U.S. Cellular, 643 Wilton Road.

Children will learn how to dial 9-1-1 on a cellular phone and will receive free safety coloring books and crayons. U.S. Cellular associates will offer families instruction in how to access Amber Alerts and other cell phone tools during an emergency. Local safety officials will provide finger-printing services. Driving course

SALEM – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a summer driver’s education course for students age 15 and over beginning Tuesday, May 29, at Mt. Abram High School. Instructor will be Fulton Ryan.

Classes will run from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for three weeks before driving rotations begin. Busing will be available after class as long as school is in session. Cost of the course is $400, payable in full to SAD 58 Adult Education prior to the start of the first class.

Student must submit an original birth certificate and a photocopy of their social security card at registration and must have no failing grades in the previous semester. Women’s class

FARMINGTON – Women, Work and Community will offer “Moving Through Fear” from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays, June 7 to 28, at the Farmington Center for Women, Work and Community, 108 Perham St.

Women, Work and Community is a statewide nonprofit organization committed to improving the economic lives of Maine women and their families. It provides individual assistance and group training in building careers, starting and growing businesses, planning for financial security and becoming community leaders.
