Rumford – Evelyn R. Sullivan, 92, of Holyoke Avenue, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 2, with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Richibucto Village, New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 6, 1915, a daughter of Camille and Leonie (Thibodeau) Richard.

She attended St. John’s School and has lived her entire life in Rumford.

While working at Oxford Paper Co., she met her first husband Eric J. Cormier, and they were married on Nov. 4, 1935. He passed away on Sept. 23, 1959.

Together they had three children, Elaine Cormier-Rucker of Ridgecrest, Calif., James E. Cormier, and wife, Ann Marie, of Worcester, Mass., and Robert A. Cormier of Chesapeake, Va.

She later married John J. Sullivan in April 1963. He passed away in April 1996. His children were Richard J. Sullivan of Andover, Viola Sullivan of Delray Beach, Fla., and Joanna LeClair of Naples.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Catholic Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She loved cooking, sewing and just being with her family and friends.

She was the oldest of 14 children and she is survived by her brothers and sisters, Gerald Richard of Worcester, Mass., Ernest Richard, and wife, Jeanne, of Worcester, Mass., Norman Richard, and wife, Elaine, of Dudley, Mass., Irene Menard, and husband, Norman, of West Boylston, Mass., Francis Richard, and wife, Doris, of Leicester, Mass., Mildred Carbonneau, and husband, Homer, of Worcester, Mass., Theresa Carbonneau of Worcester, Mass., and Albert Richard, and wife, Connie, of Berlin, Mass.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, Eric J. Cormier and John J. Sullivan, she was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Rene; and sisters, Rose, Lillian, Mary and Rita.
