The playoffs are about finding the best of the best.

A glance through a head-to-head comparisons between the Lewiston Maineiacs and Val-d’Or Foreurs reveals just how close – and how evenly – the teams played this season.

One of the bigger indicators is the number of awards each team won this season: The teams combined to win 10 post-season awards.

Of course, that number is a bit skewed, since Val-d’Or defenseman Kristopher Letang won all four of the Foreurs’ awards.

Letang was honored as the league’s best defensive defenseman, the league’s best overall defenseman, the league’s personality of the year, and was named to the league’s first All-Star team.

The Maineiacs’ awards honored four individuals, and twice honored the team.

Peter Delmas earned All-Rookie designation, Jonathan Bernier was voted to the league’s second All-Star team, Marc-Andre Cliche won the Guy Carbonneau Trophy as the league’s best defensive forward and Coach Clem Jodoin took home Coach of the Year honors.

Additionally, the team received the Robert Lebel Trophy as the best defensive team in the league, and the Jean Rougeau Trophy, awarded to the top team in the regular season.
