FARMINGTON – Robert H. Shank, 63, a resident of Main Street in Jay, died Wednesday, May 2, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one day.
He was born in Livermore Falls on June 19, 1943, the son of Harrison and Madelyn (Merrill) Shank and attended school in Pennsylvania. On July 30, 1971, he married Marian “Pat” Counterman in Pennsylvania. He and his family moved back to Maine 15 years ago.
Bob worked as a self-employed carpenter and from 1998 to 2004 he worked as a truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, NASCAR, football and playing the guitar. He was a fan of country western music.
He is survived by his wife of Jay; three daughters, Veronica Simpson, and her husband, John, of Lake Ariel, Pa., Sherry Vaga, and her husband, Victor, of Allentown, Pa., and Patricia Castagana, and her fiancé, Rich Feyer, of Dunellen, N.J.; two sons, Dennis Shank, and his wife, Joanne, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Christopher Shank, and his fiancée, June Schwenck, of Jay; stepbrothers, Kavin and Timothy Leonard; two sisters, Florence Bryant of Livermore Falls and Brenda Beaulieu of Fayette; two half-sisters, Debra Mertz and Dolores Leonard; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Clifford Binder in 2001; and brothers, Rodney Shank and John Leonard.
