RUMFORD – Lorraine G. Gallant, 81, of Mill Hill Road in Hanover, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, at Rumford Hospital with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Rumford on Jan. 11, 1926, a daughter of Neri and Ida (Poulin) Babineau.
She was educated in Rumford schools.
She married Albert J. Gallant on Jan. 26, 1946; he passed away on July 4, 1972.
She was employed for many years at Madison Motor Inn as a waitress and cook. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church and was a member of VFW Post No. 1641, Ladies Auxillary, and was very active in Hanover political affairs.
She loved cooking, gardening, canning, crocheting, and playing beano, but most of all, she just loved being with her family and their many friends.
She is survived by her children, Ronald J. Gallant and wife, Linda, of Port St. John, Fla., Gerard “Joe” Gallant and wife, Cheryl, of Brunswick, Richard J. Gallant and wife, Jennifer, of Andover, Sheila A. St. Cyr and husband, Marshall, of New Castle, and Debra M. Tucker and husband, Jeffrey, of Gorham; a sister, Jeannette Newman of Bowdoin; 11 grandchildren, Karin, Fawna, Jeanna, Rebecca, Erica, Kevin, Shawn, Nicole, Loren, Gretchen and Jacob; and eight great-grandchildren, Joey, Cassie, Sierra, McKenzie, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Abigail, and Allison.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert J. Gallant; and sisters, Noella Barlow and Theresa Myles.
