FARMINGTON – Raymond E. Rowe, 92, of Avon, died Friday, May 4, at Sandy River Center for Health Care, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks, after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Kingfield, the son of Ernest and Bernice (Barden) Rowe. He was educated in the schools of Phillips and was a graduate of Rumford High School.
He married Algie Strout, June 28, 1939 in Kingfield. She died July 29, 2006. He worked for the Portland Shipyard, Diamond Match and also for Forster Mfg. Co., until he retired in 1976.
He was a 50-year member of Blue Mt. Lodge 67, a member of the Phillips Men’s Club, Phillips Senior Citizens and served on the board of directors for the Shadagee Senior Citizens Housing, where he was a charter member and past president; member of the Phillips Historical Society, Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad, the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and also was a member of the Phillips Methodist Church. He enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Errol Rowe of Livermore Falls; three daughters, Elizabeth Leibowitz of Lisbon, Cinda Lee Bradgon of Gray and Greta Espeaignnette of Avon; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
