LITCHFIELD – Mary E. Campbell, 86, a resident of Richmond Road, Litchfield, died Tuesday, May 8, at her home in Litchfield, where she had resided for more than 60 years.
She was born June 10, 1920, in Dixfield, the daughter of the late William O. and Alice Rollins Paine. She was a graduate of Dixfield High School. After graduation, she worked as an aide at the Farmington hospital. She also worked in the Dixfield Diamond Match mill and the Wilton woolen mill.
She was a kind and gentle soul who dearly loved her family and home. She was an avid cook – baking her own bread well into her 80s; she was a knowledgeable gardener, enjoying her vegetable and flower gardens.
She is survived by her children, Deborah M. Campbell of Lewiston, Ralph W. Campbell and Byron I. Campbell II, both of Litchfield; a sister, Evelyn Wilber, and her husband, Charles, of Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Byron I. Campbell Sr.; a sister, Mildred Welch; and her brothers, William and Ernest Paine.
