Former world boxing champion Diego “Chico” Corrales was killed Monday night in a motorcycle accident. Corrales’ 2005 knockout of Jose Luis Castillo capped arguably the fight of the decade thus far. It’d be great to go the rest of the decade without reading another premature obituary on the sports page.

Steve Smith signed a hefty contract extension to stay with the Carolina Panthers through 2012. Terms weren’t disclosed, but if Smith banks $1 million for every interception Jake Delhomme and David Carr throw trying to get him the ball, his great-great-great-grandchildren will live well.
