The Scoop: Flooding from the Patriot’s Day rainstorm washed out 300 feet of Elm Street, which needs to be repaved. Board members received a quote of $5,800 from Harry Crooker and Sons of Topsham to make the repairs, but have not yet approved spending the money. Instead, the item was continued in case more paving repairs could be folded into the contract.
Broken compactor switch nearing fix
Issue: A lockout switch to allow only one compactor to run at a time will be installed at the Transfer Station. It is estimated to cost $2,896.50.
The Scoop: Jerry Sabins, the facility manager, asked board members to take half of the repair costs from the town’s undesignated surplus account and said he would come up with the balance. During discussion, however, Selectman Mark Duquette discovered $3,556.75 unused in one of the department’s accounts. He proposed that it be used to fund the shade item from above, as well as part of the switch repair. Board members unanimously approved the motion.
