This concerns the reported dismissal of the music teacher at the Jay Elementary School. As members of the Livermore Falls, Jay Senior Citizens, we feel that this action was a grievous mistake.
Our group has had the wonderful opportunity of being entertained by the third- and fourth-grade students several times, and we were always amazed by the performance of those children. The loss of that music teacher is going to result in a big downturn in students being interested in music. That is very sad.
We realize that there is a budget that has to be maintained, and, at times, positions have to be curtailed in order that things run smoothly. But our children, the future of this world, should have the chance to do what they really enjoy, so that they will become strong and civic-minded citizens.
We sincerely hope the superintendent of schools and the Jay School Board will reconsider and put the music teacher back where she belongs – with her dedicated students.
