BRUNSWICK – The 2007 Maine Triathlon Season got under way Saturday with the Ironbear at Bowdoin College.

Triathletes swam one-quarter mile, while duathletes ran two miles to start the race. All competitors biked 12 miles and ran three miles.

In the triathlon, Chris Bagg, 27, of Putney, Vt., set a course record with a time of 51 minutes, 40 seconds. Other top male finishers were: Matt LeBrun, Springvale, U19; Sean Teel, Brunswick, 20-24; Mike Caiazzo, 30-34; Kurt Perham, Brunswick, 35-39; Marcus Deck, Brunswick, 40-44; Rob Smith, Cumberland Foreside, 45-49; Doug Cochrane, Dieppe, New Brunswick, 50-54; Patrick Horan, Dover, N.H., 55-59; Chip Loring, Old Town, 60+.

Top female competitors: Hannah Strickland, Brunswick, U19; Katie Chapman, Brunswick, 20-24; Kendra Emery, Wayne, 25-29; Jennifer Harvey, Brighton, Mass., 30-34; Kendra Hodder, Yarmouth, 35-39; Erin Brennan, 40-44; Liz Johnson, Freeport, 45-49; Nancy Grant, North Yarmouth, 50-54; Mary Lou Lowrie, New Gloucester, 55-59; Robin McCarthy, Portland, 60+.

In the duathlon, Keith Drake of Norwich, Vt., took top honors with a 1:01:10. Heather Jackson of Exeter, N.H., ws the top female finisher, 1:10:14.
