DIXFIELD – So far two people have taken out nomination papers to run for the two years remaining in Selectman Brenda Turbide’s three-year term.

Vying for the seat are Norine Clarke and William Gallant. Both are area businesspeople.

Turbide, whose resignation is effective June 12, said she is leaving the board because she no longer has the time needed to do the job. She will remain a member of the town’s Water Advisory Committee.

Nomination papers, with the signatures of least 25 registered Dixfield voters, must be returned to the town office by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25.

Candidates running for the two three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen are unopposed. The date for returning nomination papers passed on April 16 with only two people running for the two seats. Incumbent Selectman Raymond Carlton is seeking a second term, and James Desjardins, a retired postal employee, is running for the second seat.

Even less interest has been shown in a seat on the SAD 21 school board. Only incumbent Barbara Chow returned nomination papers to run for an additional term. No one is running for the second seat, held by incumbent Shelley Harlow.

Selectmen will likely appoint someone to the seat for one year, then search for nominees during next year’s election.

Voting takes place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 12, at the Dixfield Fire Station.
