GREENE – David R. LaFayette, 39, a resident of Greene, died Wednesday, May 9, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was fighting ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He continues his fight with a Web site he created to promote awareness and to provide research information about the disease. His Web site, survivingALS.com, was recently recognized as the most frequently visited ALS Web site in North America.
He was the son of Marc and Jacqueline Francouer LaFayette, born in Lewiston on July 13, 1967. Educated locally, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1985, and the University of Southern Maine, Class of 1992.
He was married to Jennifer McMahon on July 28, 2001. Prior to his death he had been employed by W.D. Matthews in Auburn. He loved the outdoors, traveling annually to Canada to snowmobile, fishing with the Bad Dogs on Memorial Day weekend, and when he wasn’t outdoors he was usually planning an event with the Portland Sea Dogs or Lewiston Maineiacs.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer and her children, Chris, Brittany and Madison Noel; his mother, Jacqueline of Greene; his brother, Michael of Boston; stepmother, Gillian Curtis of Greene; and many, many friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Marc.
