I have just read about the town hall meeting at Rangeley concerning the National Guard low-level fly-overs. (May 3). I have been spending a summer month in Maine for over 30 years to enjoy the peace and quiet the Rangeley area offers. Low-level flights would destroy this.
Have you ever tried to relax in your backyard with a neighbor’s lawn mower going full blast? Can you imagine the sudden and ear-splitting noise of a low-flying jet appearing suddenly overhead? This proposal will deter many summer visitors. One would think the residents of Rangeley would have learned something a few years ago when they believed the promises of the land developers.
The promises that gave rise to the bumper stickers, “Save Rangeley, Shoot a developer.”
