MANSFIELD, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State University pounded out six home runs on 15 hits as the Warriors defeated the University of Southern Maine 16-5 in a winners bracket game at the LEC baseball championship tournament Friday.

The Warriors (33-9) jumped out to a 6-0 lead, fueled by a two-run home run by freshman Melvin Castillo in the first inning and a three-run blast by senior Randy Re.

in the second.

The Huskies (27-14) were much less productive on 12 hits, including three home runs. Senior Ryan Bourque had a solo home run in the fifth and a two-run shot in the seventh, while senior Nick Vardaro hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third.
