Seniors to meet
PARIS – The Lake Thompson Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Market Square Restaurant. Dinner will be chosen from the menu. There will be a cakeless bake sale. Members are asked to bring a gift for beano.
Final plans for the annual trip in June will be discussed. New members and guests are welcome.
Plant sale
NORWAY – The Progress Center will hold its annual plant sale on Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18, at 35 Cottage St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. There will be a selection of annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs as well as hanging baskets. The proceeds will benefit the consumer activity fund.
Most of the individuals who attend the Progress Center have limited funds, making it difficult for them to participate in community activities. The consumer activity fund is used to supplement their spending money, allowing them to attend activities of their choice.
They include going to the movies, trips on the Songo River Queen, watching the Portland Pirates and Lewiston Maineiacs games, train rides in North Conway, visiting the Maine Wildlife Park, concerts and other shows. For more information. call 743-8049.
Society speaker
PARIS – The Paris Cape Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the museum, 77 High St. John Davis will give the program and speak on the book, “G.T. Trackside, with John Ames” by George Melvin. It is a full-color book of John Ames, a Paris native. There are color slides from the 1950s to the 1980s during his employment as a telegraph operator on the local Grand Trunk Railway. Refreshments will be served.
Yard sale
OTISFIELD – A yard and plant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Otisfield Community Hall, Route 121. Proceeds will benefit the Otisfield Scholarship Fund and Responsible Pet Care shelter. For more information, call Anne or Lisa at 539-9101, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Sale, drive
OXFORD – There will be a 12-family indoor yard sale/bake sale/bottle drive from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Oxford Community Center. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Oxford Hills. Any questions, contact Pam Lovely at 539-4563.
Auxiliary supper
WATERFORD – The Waterford Firemen’s Auxiliary will host a public supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the fire station. Menu will include casseroles, beans and homemade desserts. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
Pie sale
WEST PARIS – The annual rhubarb pie sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19, at the West Paris Universalist Church. There will also be a white elephant table or two.
Buffet supper
WEST PARIS – A public buffet supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 9 Maple St. Finnish and American foods will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. It is being sponsored by the Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine.
Club workshop
NORWAY – The Heywood Club will celebrate spring at a “Laughter Workshop” on Monday, May 21, at the clubhouse. Carol Emery of the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will be the presenter. The evening will begin with a potluck supper at 5 p.m.

Thalians speaker
PARIS – The Thalians Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the vestry of the First Congregational Church of Paris. The guest speaker will be Beth Damon, who will talk about a hike of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Donations for the Sea Coast Missions will be collected. Those attending are asked to bring a casserole or salad to share for the potluck supper.
Fishing day
GORHAM, N.H. – The 16th annual kids free fishing day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 2, at Wildcat Pond, Route 16. For kids 15 years and younger, there will be fishing, personal instruction, a casting contest, learning stations and prizes.
