LEWISTON – The public is welcome to attend the 10th annual Shining Stars Celebration in honor of 18 young people at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at council chambers in city hall.
Nominated youths will be recognized through a PowerPoint presentation and 10 will be named as Shining Stars.
Councilor Norm Rousseau will deliver a commendation address to the nominees and University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Ryan Reed, a 2004 Shining Star, will share what being a Shining Star meant to him.
Lewiston High School senior Kelin Sevit, of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, will sing the National Anthem, and city Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier will serve as master of ceremonies.
Certificates will be given to nominees, and gifts donated by area businesses will be presented to the winners. In addition, an on-site random drawing will occur with one Shining Star winning a computer system. The computer system and accessories were donated by Sisters of Charity Health System.
Nominees are Jama Ahmed, Tiffany Beaulieu, Abigail T. Blaisdell, Ted Blaisdell, Nicole Bradbury, Garrett Clark, Katherine Doyle, Kyle C. Fenderson, Carter J.D. Handy, Kassie LaBrecque, Jacob LaRoche, Mackenzi Masselli, Kevin McKeown, Nicole Court-Menendez, Adam Meservier, Katrina St. Claire, Patrick W. Smith, and Ashley Stuart.
Judges are Councilor Ronald Jean, Perham-Whittier, Nick Knowlton and Linda Varrell of Broadreach Public Relations.
Gifts for the winners were donated by Sam’s Italian, Marco’s, L.L. Bean, Lewiston Maineiacs, Community Credit Union and Lewiston Recreation & Parks Department.
Great Falls TV will broadcast the event live on Time Warner Channel 22 and Oxford Networks’ Channel 3.
