LEWISTON – Elinor A. Wing, formerly of Winthrop, passed away May 10, 10 days before her 90th birthday at Marshwood Nursing Facility, with family by her side.
She was born in Bethel, on May 20, 1917, the daughter of Elva Rolfe Leighton. She graduated from Kents Hill School, and later married Ulmont H. Wing. She worked for Winthrop Telephone Co. and helped build the successful Wing’s Electric Service with her husband, Ulmont.
She was a wonderful cook and bridge player. She avidly enjoyed the sports of fishing and hunting in the Maine woods and waters, and she shared that enjoyment of the outdoors with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed and encouraged gatherings at the family home on Lake Maranacook and camps at The Forks and Sebec Lake, and passed that joy on to her entire family.
She is survived by her son, William Wing, and his wife, Joan, of Winthrop; daughter, Gail-Mont Marr, and husband, Ken, of Lewiston, with whom she had made her home over the last several years; sons, Alan Wing, and his wife, Eleanor, of Parsonsfield and Ulmont Wing, and his partner, Charles Peel, of Washington, D.C.; stepdaughter, Helen Wing of Winthrop; six grandchildren, Robin Struck of Winthrop, Michael Wing, and his wife, Diane, of Warren, Vt., Melissa Gagnon, and her husband, Timothy, of Brunswick, Jeremy Ladd of Winthrop, Jessica Marr of Lewiston and Nicholas Marr, and his companion, Errica Beaulieu and her son, Daymon of Auburn; great-grandchildren, Zakary and Morgan Wing, Tucker and Tannar Gagnon; a great-grandchild expected in October; her sister, Barbara McHugh of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a niece; and two nephews.
The family wishes to thank her special caretaker Janet Belanger, the staff at AHHH and the staff of Buchanan House Marshwood Nursing Facility, for the loving care, which Elinor received.
