NORWAY – Ethelyn J. Millett, 91, of Norway, died Monday, May 14, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in St. Francis, on Aug. 1, 1915, to George M. and Emma (McPherson) Jones. She attended St. Francis Normal School, Fort Kent High and graduated from Bangor High School in 1932. She attended Bangor School of Commerce in 1932 to 1935.
She did student teaching in Madawaska and Machias Normal schools and taught at St. Francis Elementary from 1938 to 1939. She came to Harrison in the summer of 1939, and worked in Norway, where she met Francis H. Millett. They were married on March 30, 1941 in West Paris.
She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Norway, 60-year member of the Rebecca’s and she enjoyed her monthly get-together with the Wilson’s Girl Club, Pythian Sisters, Senior Citizens and Circle Three of the Second Congregational Church. She was well-known at the Second Congregational Church for her knitting.
She loved to help others by knitting, quilting and cooking. She knit for Christmas for Kids, the knitting tree at church. She enjoyed sending cards to people that were listed as either being sick or maybe in a nursing home. She also sent cards to people that were having a birthday. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the squirrels. She looked forward to the yearly family reunions in Northern Maine to visit her sisters and their families.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary, and husband, Benjamin Llewellyn, of Norway and Betty-Jean, and her husband, Dennis Woodworth, of South Paris; a son, George Millett, and his fiancée, Marsha McRea, of Owls Head; five sisters, Lola Jackson and Betty Henderson, both of Caribou, Laura McBriety of Allagash, Georgia McIver of Houlton and Letha Hanlin of Maryland; 10 grandchildren, Vicki Millett, Sherri Bubier, Saunda Morin, Katrina Millett, Stephen Woodworth, John Henry Millett, Spencer Woodworth, Kristina Dillingham, Annette Millett and Stephanie Woodworth; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis on May 17, 1978; a brother, Charles Jones; two sisters, Viola Vantassell and Greta McLaughlin; a granddaughter, Lisa Llewellyn; and stepdaughter, Margaret Kirk.
