LEWISTON – Isabelle A. (Biron) Fortier, 83, a resident of Schooner Estates Retirement Community in Auburn, died Monday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born at Stoke, P.Q., Canada, on Sept. 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Emile and Angeline Tremblay Biron. She graduated from Stoke High School and attended Sherbrooke Business School.
After business school she worked at the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Sherbrooke. She was married to Laurent G. Fortier of Livermore Falls, in Sherbrooke on Sept. 5, 1955. They lived in Watertown, Waltham and Needham, Mass., before moving to Schooner Estates in Auburn in 2002.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown, St. Luke’s Church in Waltham, St. Joseph’s Church in Needham and St. Philip’s Church in Auburn. She loved the ocean and nature and created many fine pieces of embroidery. She enjoyed poetry and music and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, Laurent “Larry” Fortier of Auburn; five sisters, all living in Canada, Florence Roy and Germaine Perreault, both of Sherbrooke, Denise Leroux, and her husband, Doris, of Stoke and Henriette Biron and Fabienne Biron, both of St. Therese; two brothers, also of Canada, Maurice Biron of Compton and Andre Biron and his wife, Trudy of Chateauguay; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Ducheney of Waukeska, Wisc., and Armandine Caron of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and four brothers, Marcel, Leopold, Gilbert and Rosario Biron.
