BELLINGHAM, Mass. – Lawrence W. Whitney, 75, of 12 Saddleback Hill Road, Bellingham. died on May 15.

He was born in Wilton, the son of the late Raymond C. and Ruth (Wood) Whitney. He was a resident of Bellingham since 1969, and formerly of Wilton, where he was raised. He was a graduate of Wilton Academy in Wilton and attended the University of Maine in Orono.

He was an Eagle Scout. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army during both the Korean War and Vietnam War and held rank of Lt. Col. He received the National Defense Service Medal, EOD Supervisor Badge, Good Conduct Medal.

He retired in 1973 from Natick Labs. As a civilian he worked 20 years for the Air Force Department of Defense at Hanscom Air Force Base until retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Milford, Mass., and served on numerous committees. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney were married on July 11, 1953 in Farmington.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty K. (Kershner) Whitney; a son, Steven G. Whitney of Uxbridge, Mass.; a daughter, Pamela W., and her husband, Walter Perry, of Bellingham, Mass.; a sister, Beatrice Chandler of Dexter; grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, Katarina Whitney, Jessica Kaplan, Jason and Alyssa Perry; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Benjamin Kaplan.
