The popular Monday night television show “Heroes” is currently ending its first season. Throughout the eight-month run, its viewers have always had a thought in the back of their minds: are the heroes going to be able to save the world? In saving the world, “Heroes” characters will have to stop New York City destruction by a nuclear explosion.
I believe from the horrific events of 9/11 that it would be politically incorrect, improper, and downright wrong for New York City to bombed. I know that television shows as well as movies depict explosions, car and plane crashes, hostage takings, and workplace and school shootings and bombs going off every day, but should a popular show such as “Heroes” bomb a city, and repeatedly state on the show about all the lives that will be lost? It appears that the creators are trying to remind us that only six short years ago we lost thousands of lives to an act of terrorism.
My opposition would remind everyone that we need to have strength and rise above the terror, and not to allow the terrorists to win by making us censor our television programs. There will also be members of the community who will say: what about our freedom of speech?
I agree with all of these points of view, but I do not appreciate, or like, to relive watching New York City crumble on my television screen at home, and watching “actors” die.
